Eibsee

The Eibsee lies about 9 km southwest from the famous holiday resort Garmisch-Patenkirchen in the middle of the Wetterstein Mountains submontane of the Zugspitze, at an altitude of about 1000m.

Due to its location and the crystal-clear, green water this lake is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the Bavarian Alps.

The best view to the lake can be enjoyed from the aerial cablecar which departs from Eibsee station and rises to the summit of the Zugspitze.

The size of the lake is 1,796 km² and its deepest point is 32,5 meters.

There is a lovely trail around the lake and it is worth the effort walking it, because of the amazing nature and the stunning views which can be enjoyed during the trip.
You can start from the parking at Eibsee-Hotel and the best is to walk it counterclockwise. The 7,5 km long way is mostly shaded therefore even on sunny days it is no problem. You will find many benches to relax or have a break.

The trail is not only ideal for walkers, but also for runners and Nordic-Walking fans.

After the round trail you can refresh yourself by swimming in the ice-cold water of the lake.

You can bring your own picnic or you can stop off in the restaurant of the Hotel Eibsee.
