Munich Airport Transport Information

Probably the easiest way is taking one of the two suburban trains.

S1 – to/from Munich East Station

Suburban line 1 travels from the airport via Munich central station and Marienplatz to Munich east station and back.  At the central station which is a 45 minutes drive away from the airport, there are connections to other main lines and regional trains.

You will need a ticket, valid for the entire network of the Munich public transport system. Price is 10.80 Euro per person one way. Cheaper offers such as partner tickets exist.

S8 – to/from Herrsching

Suburban line 8 goes from the airport via east station, Marienplatz and central station to the western parts of the city and ends in Herrsching. Reaching Munich east station in about 33 minutes, you can easily connect to other main lines, regional trains, underground lines and busses.

Bus

The Lufthansa Airport Bus also takes you to the bus stops at Munich central station and to Munich North (Schwabing). There you will find connections for the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, train, and taxi. This Airport bus will provide pick up/drop off directly in front of the terminals, offers luggage service, beverages on board (only May – October) and departs every 20 minutes in each direction. To save money, it is recommended to book a return ticket.

Taxi

Taxi stands can be found in Terminal 1 arrival and departure level E04 right in front of the modules A-E at the airport or Terminal 2 arrival level E03 and departure level E04. Price is approximately 50 Euro for a one way ride into Munich city centre.

Hotel Shuttle

A great number of the surrounding hotels offer airport shuttles.

Rental Car

Well-established car rental companies are located at the Munich airport central area, such as Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Alamo and Sixt. Autobahn connections to Munich city center exist and you will reach the city in about 30-45 minutes depending on where in Munich you would like to stay.
