Description
Travel 5,000 years through history, and finish with a proper Bavarian lunch.
Visit three of Munich's finest museums:
the Glyptothek (ancient Greece),
the Antikensammlung (Rome & Etruria),
and the Egyptian Museum (5,000 years of pharaohs).
No queuing, no planning just culture and comfort.
This tour takes you through three museums on and around the iconic Königsplatz, Munich's grand neoclassical square all within easy walking distance of each other.
Begin at the Glyptothek, the only museum in the world dedicated entirely to ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. The sleeping Barberini Faun, the wounded warriors of Aegina, and the delicate smile of the Kouros. Opened in 1830 by King Ludwig I, the building itself is a masterpiece.
Next, head to the Antikensammlung. Directly across Königsplatz, this world-class collection brings you face to face with ancient everyday life, Greek painted vases, Etruscan gold jewelry, Roman glass, and bronze. Objects so beautiful and so small you can hardly believe they survived 2,000 years.
Finally, visit the Egyptian Museum. Hidden beneath street level in a dramatic underground space, Munich's Egyptian Museum holds 5,000 years of history. Mummies, golden masks, sarcophagi, and everyday objects from the Nile Valley, one of the finest Egyptian collections outside Cairo.
A Bavarian Lunch or dinner is additional as option, think crispy Schnitzel, slow-roasted pork, or a vegetarian option, with a non-alcoholic drink or a Beer , just sit down and enjoy.
