English Garden
Munich
With an area of more than three square kilometers, the English Garden is the largest urban park in Germany.
Known as the perfect place for outdoor activities, the English Garden offers a lot of possibilities to recover from the busy city life.
Apart from numerous walks and greenery that will surround you when enjoying your time in Munich´s green lung, the park has lots of sights to offer.
The Japanese Teahouse for example, which was created in Aril 1972 when the Summer Olympics were held in Munich as a gift to Bavaria by Soshitsu Sen, head of the Urasenke tea school in Kyoto. The Japanese Teahouse can be found in the south end of the English Garden, behind the Haus der Kunst.
A small, 16 m high, round, Greek style temple entitled Monoperus was designed by Leo von Klenze and marks the shape of the English Garden unmistakably.
Do not miss to stop by one of the pretty beer gardens that are located in the English Garden, such as the Chinese Tower or the Seehaus. Both spots invite for a pleasant stay under shady trees, enjoying one of Munichs best sides, when having a cooled beer among visitors and residents.
