Description
This ticket is valid for the exhibitions “ANTONY MICALLEF – THE FUTURE IS STUPID” & “UNVEILING – Highlights of the MUCA Collection”. The MUCA is pleased to present the exhibition “The Future Is Stupid” – the first major retrospective exhibition dedicated to the career of the renowned British painter Antony Micallef. The exhibition celebrates more than twenty years of the artist's career and brings together over fifty key works from Micallef's oeuvre, as well as an impressive new series of paintings created especially for the museum presentation. 'The Future Is Stupid' was developed in close collaboration with the artist as part of a one-year artist-in-residence program funded by the MUCA Foundation. The exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, animation, and politically engaged projects, showcasing an artist who continually pushes the expressive and critical potential of contemporary painting. In addition to major paintings from his entire career, the exhibition will include a selection of rare bronze editions that have not been on public display since their presentation at the Royal Academy in 2008. The exhibition also sheds light on Micallef's broader creative practice through several significant interdisciplinary projects. Among them is the impressive animated film for Peter Gabriel's song Love Will Heal, which was produced in collaboration with the Oscar-winning Aardman Animation Studio. The film is shown in the MUCA Bunker and offers visitors an immersive encounter with Micallef's visual language. —— Since January 2, 2026, we have been presenting highlights of our permanent collection at the MUCA. These include outstanding representatives of urban and contemporary art, such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Invader, Antony Micallef, Kusama, Swoon, and many more. The MUCA collection began in 1998 with the first works attributable to pop and street art culture. As the MUCA developed, it was expanded to include important international artists. The MUCA collection now comprises over 1,200 objects and works, selected exhibits of which are currently on display in partner museums worldwide and now once again in Munich.Includes
