Description

Dachau was the first concentration camp established in Germany, opening less than two months after Hitler rose to power. It operated for the full twelve years of Nazi tyranny and served as a 'model' camp and SS training center. By liberation on April 29, 1945, over 206,000 prisoners from 34 nationalities had been held there, with more than 43,000 murdered.

The camp became an International Memorial in 1965, commemorating its historical significance. This tour explores Dachau’s history, including its role during the Nazi regime, prisoner life, camp punishment, medical experiments, religious aspects, prisoner groups, and liberation. It also addresses the political and economic conditions of 1930s Germany that enabled these events.
