embark on a day trip from frankfurt along the 'romantic road' to rothenburg ob der tauber. taste some regional wines during the journey, and see the main sights of the charming city of rothenburg on your own. depart from frankfurt's main train station (mannheimer straße 2-4, busstop deutsche touring/eurolines) in the morning and travel through the spessart and würzburg to the tauber valley, the wine-growing region of germany's oldest holiday route. pass small villages such as weikersheim and visit the magnificent renaissance palace and its baroque garden. in röttingen, germany`first european town there will be a foto stop in front of the twohn hall. further along the river tauber to rothenburg, a jewel of the medieval ages. on the way from frankfurt to würzburg a dry secco will be served on board to welcome the guests and when driving along the wineyards in the tauber valley, a dry white wine is served. in weikersheom a guided tour through the knights hall and the baroque garden of weikersheim castle is included. in röttingen, germany`s first european town, there is a foto stop at the baroque town hall. alnon the river tauber to rothenburg, the jewel of the medieval ages. arrive in rothenburg ob der tauber, which is considered as germany`s most romantic town and a medieval architectural jewel. optional lunch in a typical franconian restaurant with regional products (not included). free time to discover rothenburg for your own (3 hours). stroll around the market place with its magnificent town hall and many half-timbered houses. admire the exterior of the church of st. jakob and the 'plönlein.' worth to mention is the german christmas museum and the medieval crime museum with its historical collection of objects relating to medieval law. a walk on the town wall is a must when visiting the highlight of the romantic road. on the return journey to frankfurt am main, there is foto stop in würzburg at the residence, unesco world heritage and the offical starting and endpoint of the romantic road. take a view in the baroque court garden or the 'hofkirche', a elaborately decorated church. on the way back to frankfurt a glass of dry red wine will be served. please notice: alle the wines are products of franconia, semi- and dry wines from the area around. they are served in small bottels (0,25 l) and can be also taken back home. the tour guides are speaking german and english, there is a mobile website available, where further infomations are provided: guide.romantischestrasse.de
