Monuments

Just at the corner of the Theresienwiese, where the famous Octoberfest takes place each year, the Bavaria statue can be found. The statue is made of bronze and stands as Bavaria's allegory and secular patron.

The Bavaria itself with a height of 30m and a total weight of 78 tonnes was designed by German sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler who started building in 1837.

In her left hand she holds a laurel wreath while her right hand holds a leashed lion.

Do not miss to climb up the stairs into the lady´s head and enjoy a stunning view over Munich that is provided through the peepholes.

The Bavaria used to be the biggest bronze statue in the world and even served as model for the Statue of Liberty at that time.

Open daily 09am - 18pm. During Octoberfest 9am - 20pm
