Westpark
Munich
In the southwest of Munich you can find a large urban greenery - the Westpark. The Park was built between 1978 and 1983 and hosted the International Garden Show (IGA) in 1983. The park itself covers an area of about 720,000 m² extending 2 km from east to west.
Inside the park there are also some nice attractions that make the Westpark unique in Munich:
The rose garden, for example, provides a number of more than 500 different rose species.
An area, called 'Little Asia', can also be found within the park, consisting of a Chinese garden, a Japanese garden, a Thai sala and a pagoda which was originally constructed by Nepalese craftsmen.
At the Mollsee, which is an artificial lake situated in the eastern part of the Westpark, is best for model boat enthusiasts.
Westpark is also very famous for hosting numerous open air events in summer. The western lake features a stage area where open air movie screenings, live music events and theater shows take place during the warm months of the year.
And, for sure, just as in any other park in Munich, Westpark is used for jogging, cycling, walking and many more outdoor activities, not only by the residents that live around the park.
