Isartor

Munich

Monuments

The Isartor is one of Munich´s three remaining outer city gates. It is located west of the Marienplatz.

The street that is leading through the gate towards Marienplatz is called Tal ('valley') as the road from the old town hall towards the Isartor went downhill.

The gate was built in 1337 and was damaged badly during World War II.

Today inside the gate the 'Valentin Museum' can be visited. A Museum in memorial to the famous comedian and Munich folk singer Karl Valentin. The Valentin Museum was first opended in September 1958.
