New Town Hall
Munich
The new town hall is where the town council of Munich and the Lord Mayor´s office is housed. It unmistakably dominates Munich´s city center.
The building itself was constructed by Georg Hauberrisser in a Flemish Gothic style between 1865 and 1908.
The eyechatching facade of the new town hall is decorated with a number of figures of Bavarian kings, saints, electors and legendary characters. Even the Munich child ('Muenchner Kindl') spreads her protective arms over the city from the top of the town hall´s tower.
A very popular part of the bulding is definately the carillion with its almost human sized figures, that dance around every day at 11am and 12pm. The round dance is also accompanied by the music of 43 bells.
As you can imagine, climbing up the tower of the new town hall offers an amazing view over the city. Therefore the tower is open to the public.
From November to April the tower opens Monday to Friday from 10am - 5pm. In summer months, May to October opening hours are 9am - 7pm as well as Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 7pm.
