Haus der Kunst
Munich
The „Haus der Kunst“ is one of Munich`s most popular museums. It shows varying exhibitions with the focus on contemporary art. Photography, Film, Architecture and Design are also well established in the program. Famous international artists are exhibited as well as newcomer artists.
The structure was built in 1933 within only 4 years and opened in 1937 for the first time. It exhibited the most important German art works until 1944 when it was converted to a casino for the army after World War II.
Since 1949 it has gone back to its original purpose – a place for art exhibitions of all kinds. Exhibitions ranging from “Picasso” (1955), “From Greco to Goya” (1982), “Carl Spitzweg” (1985), “Masterworks of the Barnes Collection” (1995), “The Night” (1998), “Andreas Gursky” (2007) to “Ai Weiwei. So Sorry” (2009) are shown here.
6 to 8 exhibitions are offered here each year as well as an extensive program for children and teenager.
