St. Peter Church
Munich
Munich`s oldest parish church St. Peter, also known as “Alter Peter” (Old Peter) is situated right in the city center on the so called Petersbergl ( Peter’s hill - the only elevation that can be found in the old town of Munich). Even before the city has been founded, in the 8th century a chapel already occupied that little hill and in the 12th century a church in Romanesque style has been built . During the centuries the church was rebuilt and reconstructed several times. Stylistic periods such as gothic, renaissance and rococo have marked the church.
Inside the church you will find several fantastic art treasures such as an altar from 14th century as well as several paintings form 15th – 18th century.
Climbing up the 306 steps of the Alter Peter tower is definitely worth the effort, because once arrived on the top, you can enjoy a stunning view over Munich. On a clear day, the view reaches far over 100 kilometers.
The total height of the Tower is 91 meters.
